Giant flying squirrel fossil from a Barcelona landfill clarifies the squirrel family tree

(University of Kansas) A study just published in eLife shows a fossil found in a Barcelona landfill to be about 11.6 million years old -- making the Miopetaurista neogrivensis specimen the oldest-known giant flying squirrel discovered.
