Funding Pediatric Subspecialty Training: Are T32 Grants the Future?

It's all about people. For an academic department or even the discipline of pediatrics, long-term viability is all about our trainees. Who we train, and how we train them, is our legacy. Although the optimal mechanics of pediatric subspecialty fellowship training are undeniably complicated, funding pediatric subspecialty research training in the US can be even more daunting. There might now be an opportunity to influence thinking of the National Insitutes of Health (NIH) as they re-evaluate how training and career development programs are best awarded and financed, as well as critically examine how we collectively as departments of pediatrics decide to fund this necessary education.
