Beloved Pennsylvania EMS Chief Dies On Duty After Cardiac Arrest

It is with great sadness that Crozer-Keystone Health System announced the line of duty death of EMS Chief Robert (Bob) Reeder on October 20, 2018. According to preliminary information, Bob was on duty Saturday morning at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa., during a charity event when he suffered cardiac arrest. Despite CPR efforts and immediate transport to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Bob passed away.Bob was 61 and was part of Crozer-Keystone’s EMS team for 37 years. He spent the last 20 years as chief, and was also president of the Delaware County Emergency Health Services Council for more than 20 years. His leadership efforts in Delaware County were remarkable. Bob was known for his kind and gentle nature, and for representing Crozer-Keystone with spirit and pride. “Bob Reeder was much more than a friend and colleague of mine, he was an inspiration,” said JEMS Editor-in Chief A.J. Heightman. “He was an individual any EMS system would be blessed in having as their leader and advocate.” When EMS Today, the JEMS conference, was in Philadelphia and Baltimore, Bob offered his support, services and also equipment and supplies to make sure the event and the JEMS Games Clinical Competition were successful; support that the JEMS team always appreciated. “Bob was a big teddy bear who possessed a brilliant mind and a caring and fun personality,” says Heightman. “He not only loved EMS and his region, but also the ‘streets’ and the crews he sent out to serve peo...
