Hydrogen and Methane-Based Breath Testing and Outcomes in Patients with Heart Failure
Few bacterial populations live within the small intestine [1]. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a disease caused by an excessive amount of bacteria in the upper alimentary tract [2]. This phenomenon is mainly due to the entrance of colonic species into the small intestine. Different conditions are causally linked with SIBO development, among them: structural abnormalities of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and GI disorders such as decreased gastric acidity, reduced peristaltic activity, and mucosal damage.
