Missouri Challenges Residents to #BuckleUpPhoneDown

Missouri Governor Michael Parson has officially proclaimed Oct. 19, 2018, to be Buckle Up Phone Down Day. Organized by the state's Department of Transportation and the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, #BuckleUpPhoneDown (#BUPD) day is intended to be the first step to break driving habits that cause deadly motor vehicle crashes on the state's roadways. In messages over social media and through grassroots outreach, all of state's resident's are asked to accept the challenge, as well as challenge a friend, relative or members of the community.   The idea is simple, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation's website, "when you get into any vehicle, buckle up your safety belt. If you are a driver, put the cellphone down. Turn it off if you have to. Every trip, every time!" Fire and EMS agencies across the state are participating, along with colleagues in state and local law enforcement.  #BuckleUpPhoneDown 👍🏻👎🏻 pic.twitter.com/nYPvhV5P3p — Buchanan County EMS (@BCEMSMedics) October 19, 2018 Today and every day.
