Low Levels of Renin and High Aldosterone-to-Renin Ratio Among Rheumatoid Patients and Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients: A Prospective Study.

CONCLUSIONS: Patients with RA tended to have lower levels of plasma renin compared to healthy subjects. This finding indicates that the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system might not be directly involved in the process that results in increased cardiovascular events in rheumatoid arthritis. Purpose of review Treat-to-target (T2T) is an emerging management strategy in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). The concept was originally based on evidence from other chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes and hypothyroidism, as well as some rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout. The purpose of this review is to discuss the arguments against and in favour of adopting a T2T strategy in the management of axSpA. Recent findings International groups have recommended a T2T strategy in axSpA. Inactive disease according to the Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS) has been sugg...

CONCLUSIONS: Among CIRD patients prospectively followed-up at rheumatology outpatient clinics, those with AS show higher risk of first CVE. Besides cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, being a man and older as well as having a long disease duration increase the risk of CVE in patients with CIRD. JaraAbstractMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of metabolic and cardiovascular (CV) risk factors including obesity and visceral adiposity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hypertension contributing to CV mortality. The interface between the metabolic and immune systems has been of great interest recently. These interactions are regulated through gene...

The objective of the study was to investigate the frequency of traditional risk factors for the cardiovascular (CV) disease, to calculate the Systematic COronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) for CV-related mortality in Danish patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and to compare with results from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from the same settlement. All PsA and AS patients aged 18 –85 years from one outpatient clinic were invited. A rheumatology nurse conducted 30-min screening consultation, preceded by a lipid and glucose profile. High SCORE risk led to recommendation of...

CONCLUSIONS: Diffuse anterior scleritis was the most common scleritis entity in China. RA and AS were relatively common diseases associated with scleritis. Corticosteroids combined with immunosuppressive agents effectively controlled the disease. PMID: 27849414 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Director chair, film slate and load horn. Here’s a proposal for you: If, by following the Wheat Belly lifestyle, a long list of conditions are reduced or reversed at no risk, almost no cost, reversing even chronic and potentially fatal conditions . . . does that mean that the notion of self-directed health might be on the horizon, i.e., putting control over health back in our own hands? I think it does. No, we will never implant our own defibrillators or take out our own gallbladders. But so many chronic health conditions afflicting modern humans recede that I believe that it is entirely reasonable to start talking a...

Abstract This review introduces the history of development, organizational structure, funding resources, data collection, and quality control of the Chinese Rheumatism Data Center (CRDC) and summarizes the collection of data. In 2009, Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), together with several rheumatism centers, established the Chinese Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Treatment and Research Group (CSTAR) to collect data on Chinese patients for the study of SLE disease characteristics. In 2011, CSTAR was extended with the formation of the CRDC at PUMCH with direction from the National Health and Family ...
