The added benefit of digital breast tomosynthesis in second breast cancer detection among treated breast cancer patients

ConclusionCombined FFDM + DBT in the post breast cancer surveillance regimen has shown to reduce the patients' RR and to increase the CDR. FFDM + DBT had higher diagnostic accuracy than FFDM alone. FFDM + DBT ought to be a standard combination in the breast cancer surveillance in treated patients.

A group of former patients of Raleigh Radiology filed a  lawsuitthis month against the imaging center for producing substandard mammograms and not meeting American College of Radiology (ACR) standards. Lawyers of plaintiff Emily Cram, a Wake County resident, filed the December 31 suit on her behalf. Cram had undergone three mammograms at Raleigh Radiology ’s Blue Ridge location between November 7, 2017 and November 6, 2019, a period of time of which the ACR stated in a review that the clinic didn’t meet their imaging standards. After the ACR review, the center was mandated to inform all patients that mammo...

en Reynolds Wang There are little epidemiological data on the impact of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and endocrine disruptors on mammographic density (MD), a strong predictor of breast cancer. We assessed MD in 116 non-Hispanic white post-menopausal women for whom serum concentrations of 23 commonly detected chemicals including 3 polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 8 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), and 12 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) had been measured. Linear regression analyses adjusting for potential confounders were used to examine the associations between the levels of the chemic...

ConclusionsThis study found no evidence that Family Medicine Groups affected screening rates for these 3 chronic diseases. Limitations in the implementation of the Family Medicine Group policy in its early years may have contributed to this lack of impact. Interprofessional primary care teams may need to include elements other than organizational changes to increase disease prevention efforts.

Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a well-established, valuable adjunct to screening mammography in women that have documented high-risk for developing breast cancer; it is also used to evaluate implants for silicone rupture and as part of the baseline work-up for patients presenting with axillary metastatic disease but a mammographically/sonographically occult primary breast cancer. The role of breast MRI in the preoperative evaluation of other women with an established breast cancer diagnosis is controversial.

Abstract The modified round block technique (MRBT) is a level I oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery (OBCS), which contains a very wide glandular flap created by extensive dual-plane undermining that is achieved by entire subcutaneous dissection and approximately 50% dissection of the breast parenchyma from the pectoralis muscle. A retrospective analysis was performed for 100 patients who underwent OBCS using MRBT from February 2009 to October 2017. The incidence of positive margin was 7.0% (seven cases), and there has been no local recurrence during a median follow-up period of 68 months. Short- and long-te...

The aim of this study was to quantify the impact of organised mammography screening on breast cancer mortality across European regions. Therefore, a systematic review was performed including different types of studies from all European regions and stringently used clearly defined quality appraisal to summarise the best evidence.
