As for “Fresh Laughing Gas”—Get It Out of Jehl Free....

As New York City ’s “French Dentist,” Dr. Jehl ran his accommodating dental office until 9pm every day of the week, including Sundays. Language posed no barriers as he was conversational in French, German, Spanish, and English. The obverse of his trade cards were floral (left); the reverse, practical. Promising “Fresh Laughing Gas always on hand,” (right) Dr. Jehl administered nitrous oxide and extracted teeth for free; “no charge,” as long as patients were purchasing “artificial teeth” from him.
