Authors: Sharma R, Goel RK, Rana A, Sachdev R Abstract Ovarian steroid cell tumours are rare virilizing tumours. They are three types of tumours of ovary which are characterized by steroid cell proliferation : Leydig cell tumour, steroid cell tumour, Not Otherwise Specified (NOS) and stromal luteoma. Here we present a case of 36 year old female, who presented with history of weight loss since last two and half months. There is history of amenorrhoea and hirsuitism. Her CA was 125: 11.4 IU/ml (0-35 U/mL). Blood Testosterone levels was elevated with value of 150 ng/ml (5.71-77 ng/ml). Serum Inhibin A, Inhibin B, FSH,...

We report a case of a 54 year old man showing a large lobulated cystic lesion in the left hemidiaphragm. Complete surgery was performed and histological diagnosis of intradiaphragmatic bronchogenic cyst was made during surgery and confirmed after a total section analysis. Moreover we reviewed the other cases published in the English literature, including clinical, surgical and pathological data. PMID: 30546149 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Motta F, Spadola S, Bosco A, Aprile G, Piombino E, Magro G Abstract Perineurioma is a relatively rare benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor composed of cells resembling to normal perineurium. Although this tumor may arise in the context of a nerve (intraneural perineurioma), extraneural perineurioma does occur, frequently involving the soft tissues of the lower and upper extremities, trunk and head and neck. Rarely it has also been reported in visceral organs, including gastrointestinal tract. We herein describe the clinicopathologic features of a rare case of a perineurioma presenting as a polypoid lesion ...

We describe a case of a 42-ys-old female patient complaining a cervical swelling due to left intrathyroid nodule, measuring 35 mm in its greatest dimension. A Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) was performed and diagnosis of indeterminate neoplastic lesion, indefinite whether primary or metastatic, was formulated. After complete thyroidectomy, the histological picture of the nodule was characterized by a dual cellular population: several glandular structures composed by columnar cells with clear cytoplasm were embedded in a highly cellular stroma composed of spindle-shaped elements. Immunohistochemistry and molecular b...

This report  describes the case of a 58-year-old woman presented with a large palpable mass in the right buttock. Imaging studies revealed a well-defined soft tissue mass, with extensive calcification. A histological examination after surgical resection confirmed the diagnosis of well-differentiated extraosseous chondrosarcoma. The outcome was favorable, without recurrence or metastasis. We report the clinicopathological features of a further intraosseous PMH occurring in a 46-year-old woman involving the right patella. Histologic examination showed an infiltrating growth composed of sheets and fascicles of spindled to epithelioid large cells, with ample eosinophilic cytoplasm, large vesicular nuclei and prominent nucleoli, sometimes resembling rhabdomyoblastic tumor cells, without morphologic signs of vascular differentiation. At immunohistochemical examination, neoplastic cells stained diffusely for AE1/AE3 keratins, vimentin, ERG, FLI-1, INI-1, FOSB with only focal CD31 expression. The morphologic c...

Authors: Broggi G, Piombino E, Magro G, Vecchio GM Abstract Intestinal-type adenocarcinoma is a rare primary vaginal carcinoma and considerably more uncommon than metastatic lesions which represent the most frequent malignancy at this anatomic site. Among all malignant tumors, colorectal, breast and female genital tract carcinomas have the tendency to metastasize to the vagina. As morphologic and immunohistochemical features of intestinal-type adenocarcinoma occurring primarily in the vagina are not specific, clinical and radiologic information is crucial to exclude a metastatic lesion. Herein we present a ...

Authors: Guadagno E, De Rosa G, Nappi O Abstract A national project for the quality assessment of breast immunohistochemistry, involving 155 pathology laboratories distributed all over the Italian territory ( 19 regions), was carried out. The Project lasted one year from December 2014 to December 2015 and it was strongly supported by the Italian Society of Anatomic Pathology (SIAPEC/IAP). Proficiency tests were carried out by the Nordic Immunohistochemical Quality Control (NordiQC) organization. The main aim of the project was to investigate on the general performance of immunohistochemistry (ER, PR and HER2) in th...
