Pre-operative liver shrinking diet for bariatric surgery may impact wound healing: a randomised controlled trial
Bariatric surgery is the best treatment option available for weight loss and improving weight related co-morbidities in morbidly obese patients. (1) This is reflected in the growing number of operations performed across the world. With more expertise and experience results are improving and complications are low. (2, 3) While practices continuously evolve some practices initiated in the early years of laparoscopic bariatric surgery may need to be re-evaluated. Very low calorie diets (VLCD) were introduced in the early part of the last decade as a short term optimising tool immediately prior to bariatric surgery with the aim of improving patient outcomes.
