Conclusions The results of the present study showed that vemurafenib increased the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins of the BCL-2 family. Thus, the combination of vemurafenib with navitoclax may be effective in BRAFV600E-positive PTC treatment. PMID: 30869573 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Ahn J, Song E, Oh HS, Song DE, Kim WG, Kim TY, Kim WB, Shong Y, Jeon M Abstract BACKGROUND: The lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), which reflects the tumor infiltrating immune cell status and host immunity, has been reported as a prognostic marker in various cancers. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the role of LMR as a prognostic marker in predicting the survival of patients with anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC). METHODS: We retrospectively included 35 ATC patients with available complete blood cell count (CBC) data. The primary outcome was the overall survival (OS) of patients with ATC...

CONCLUSION: The results found demonstrate that TKIs vandetanib, lenvatinib and cabozantinib cause a decrease in oxidative activation of DNA-damaging drug ellipticine by several CYP enzymes in vitro which might lead to a decrease in its pharmacological efficiency. In contrast, they practically do not influence its detoxification catalyzed by CYP1A1, 1A2 and peroxidases. The present study indicates that tested TKIs seem not to have a potency to increase ellipticine anticancer efficiency. PMID: 30860683 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

To obtain an overview of the management and outcomes of children aged 18 years or younger diagnosed with differentiated thyroid carcinoma of follicular cell origin across the UK, by collecting and analysing data from the limited number of centres treating these patients. This multicentre data might provide a more realistic perspective than single-institution series.

ConclusionsThese are the first descriptions of thyroid papillary carcinoma without preoperative FCH-PET identification. These clinical cases are contrary to recent publications showing a benefit of this examination in the diagnosis of thyroid cancers.

Cancer incidence in an Austrian alpine valley 1983-2012 : A descriptive study. Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2019 Mar 14;: Authors: Hutter HP, Waldhoer T, Müller K, Hackl M, Weitensfelder L, Heinzl H Abstract After one of Austria's largest environmental scandals in 2014, which involved the release of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) in the Carinthian valley Görtschitztal, concerns about increased cancer rates have arísen in the affected local population. A descriptive study was conducted to examine the cancer incidence rates between 1983 and 2012. Data from the affected area (Görtschitz...

ConclusionsA paramagnetic tracer can be useful for detecting the SN and correctly staging papillary carcinoma.

Conclusion. These data suggest that T‐cell lymphopenia in patients with TC indicates an aggressive tumor behavior and might influence therapeutic choices in the future. Restoring T‐cell levels may become a potential therapeutic option within the multitarget approaches.

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe American Cancer Society estimated that cancer of the thyroid causes 53,990 new cases and about 2060 deaths in 2018. The chance of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer has risen and this increment seems to be the result of increased use of ultrasound, CT and MR imaging examinations for reasons unrelated to the thyroid. Up to 50% of adults in central Europe have one or multiple thyroid nodules. However, the prevalence of latent carcinoma in an unselected autopsy study was 8.6%. The main diagnostic task is to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions, preferably based upon on ultrasound pa...

Short Review: Genomic alterations in Hürthle cell carcinoma. Thyroid. 2019 Mar 08;: Authors: Ganly I, McFadden DG Abstract Hürthle cell tumors (HCT), including Hürthle cell adenomas (HCA) and Hürthle cell carcinomas (HCC) arise in the thyroid gland and are defined in part by an accumulation of mitochondria. These neoplasms were long considered a subtype of follicular neoplasm, although HCT is now generally considered a distinct entity. HCTs exhibit overlapping but distinct clinical features compared to follicular tumors, and several studies have demonstrated that HCTs harbor distinc...
