8.1 Implementation of a Care Pathway for the Management of Adolescent Depression in Pediatric and Mental Health Settings

Depression is a prevalent and impairing condition among adolescents, although most affected youth do not receive the necessary care. The majority of teenagers with depression present in pediatric primary care,  where providers report feeling underprepared to diagnose and manage depression. Screening for depression in primary care has the potential to improve case identification and entry to treatment, but limitations in access to diagnostic assessment and treatment prevent optimal follow of teenagers int o appropriate treatment.
