8.3 Implementation of a Co-Designed Depression Care Pathway in Pediatric Specialty Care

Youth with depression most commonly present in pediatric settings rather than in specialty mental health care. Teenagers presenting in pediatric specialty care with chronic illness are especially at risk, given that rates of depression and anxiety in this population are as much as 4 times as those found in healthy peers. Integrated behavioral health (IBH) services in pediatric settings improve access to care for affected teenagers. Universal screening, assessment, and evidence-based behavioral health treatments are key components in IBH models.
