15.2 Growing Up Dreaming: My Journey as an Undocumented Immigrant to Life as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

DREAMers (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) may be exposed to a constellation of stressors that their native peers may not experience and, thus, may be at higher risk for the development of mental health issues that warrant care and intervention. It is important for child and adolescent psychiatrists to be aware of the psychosocial issues that undocumented youths face to help reduce barriers limiting access to services, to build sustaining treatment relationships, and to identify care systems to promote support and resiliency.
