18.3 Managing Pain in Athletes

The objectives of this session are as follows: 1) to assess the prevalence of opioid prescriptions, with attention paid to longitudinal trends; 2) to examine the rates of opioid medication misuse among adolescent athletes; and 3) to explore which sport types are at increased risk for opioid misuse and the qualities of athletes that place them at risk.
