22.3 Implementation of a Group Therapy Program in a Pediatric Psychiatric Emergency Setting

We sought to implement a group therapy program in a pediatric psychiatric emergency department (ED). Stand-alone interventions, such as safety planning, have been shown to be beneficial in the psychiatric ED. Furthermore, group therapy has a long history of use in inpatient settings. However, to our knowledge, skills group programming has yet to be implemented in a pediatric emergency setting. Therefore, groups were created and implemented to enhance individual assessment and intervention in a pediatric psychiatric ED.
