24.3 Internet-Based Prevention for Alcohol and Other Drugs: An Overview of the Universal Climate Schools Prevention Programs

Substance use is one of the leading causes of burden of disease among young people, and effective prevention is critical. The Climate Schools courses are online, universal school-based programs designed to prevent alcohol and other drug use and related harms among adolescents. Developed in consultation with students, teachers, and health professionals, the courses use cartoon storylines, quizzes, and group activities, within an online delivery framework, to engage students. The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of the effectiveness of the Climate Schools courses and to discuss future directions for dissemination and ongoing development.
