43.1 Transitioning to Adulthood From Foster Care: Promising Practices and Policies
The transition from adolescence to adulthood is increasingly complicated in the United States. Most youth in foster care do not usually receive the types of family support that their nonfoster care peers enjoy when transitioning to adulthood, and youth in foster care are more likely to be challenged in the areas of social/emotional supports, living skills, finances, housing, education, employment, physical and mental health, and justice system involvement. This presentation will describe factors contributing to increased transition risk of youth in foster care and identify how promising practices would improve their transition to adulthood.
