48.1 Overview of Tic-Related OCD

Early-onset OCD and Tourette ’s disorder (TD) are 2 childhood-onset, mental health disorders with overlapping genetics and phenomenology. Up to two-thirds of patients with TD report co-occurring obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, and up to 40% of youth with OCD report co-occurring tics. Increasing evidence suggests that tic-related OCD is a unique clinical entity with distinct symptoms and treatment approaches that has more in common with TD than OCD without tics. The aims of this talk are to highlight the neurobiology, epidemiology, and salient clinical phenomenology of tic-related OCD in youth and to focus on cl inically distinguishing tics, compulsions, and related repetitive behaviors.
