50.3 Problematic Internet Use: The New Normal? Relevance, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Problematic internet use among youth has exploded as new generations of kids are exposed to the internet from a young age with varying levels of supervision. Clinicians hear complaints that adolescents are “addicted to their phone,” but the tools for evaluation and treatment of this sort of chief complaint are still evolving. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the emerging literature regarding problematic internet use in children and adolescents, with a focus on differential diagno sis and treatment strategies.
