5.4 Computerized Adaptive Screen for Teen Suicide Risk: Development and Three-Month Prediction of Suicide Attempts

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 12 to 17 years in the United States. However, many adolescents at high risk for suicide go unrecognized and untreated. Evidence-based screening and recognition strategies are needed. Attendees at this session will be able to do as follows: 1) learn how the computerized adaptive screen for teen suicide risk (CAS-Teen Suicide Risk) was developed in the Emergency Department Screen for Teens at Risk for Suicide (ED-STARS) national study; and 2) understand the sensitivity and specificity of screen questions for the prediction of suicide attempts within 3 months.
