Mental Health Crisis in Youth With ASD

This Symposium ’s goal is to provide guidance to the child and adolescent psychiatrist in private practice in assisting families who are struggling to manage their child with ASD and in crisis. Evidence shows that almost 70% of youth with ASD have one form of mental illness, 56% of individuals with ASD have a hi story of aggression toward their caregivers, 30% are found to engage in self-injurious behaviors, and 49% have a history of elopement. Individuals with ASD are also 28 times more likely to report suicidal ideation.
