Palmaris Longus Tendinopathy Diagnosed with Ultrasound: A Case Report

Publication date: Available online 6 October 2018Source: PM&RAuthor(s): John W. Norbury, Eric J. MorrisonAbstractThis is a case of 52-year old deaf female who was referred to the electrodiagnostic (EDX) laboratory for evaluation of pain and parasthesias in the left upper limb. The EDX study was normal. However, ultrasound revealed tendinopathy of the palmaris longus tendon, manifested by increased hypoechogenecity, caliber, and tenderness to sonopalpation compared to the right side. To the authors’ knowledge there are no reported cases of palmaris longus tendinopathy diagnosed with ultrasound. This case supports the use of point of care ultrasound to explore other possible causes of pathology in patients with parasthesias in the context of a normal EDX study.
