National Academy of Medicine Announces Recipients of Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Improving Mental Health and Advancing Health Care

The National Academy of Medicine today awarded the 2018 Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health to Kenneth Wells for developing quality and outcomes approaches to psychiatry and mental health, fostering a generation of clinical investigators and mental health system leaders, and championing partnered, participatory research to advance equity for under-resourced populations. For his pioneering role in national health policy and health services research, NAM also awarded the 2018 Gustav O. Lienhard Award for Advancement of Health Care to Stuart Altman, Sol C. Chaikin Professor of National Health Policy at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. The awards will be presented at the National Academy of Medicine’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 15.
