The elevated prevalence of risk factors for chronic liver disease among ageing people with hemophilia and implications for treatment

This study aimed to assess the associations between CLD and its risk factors using data from the H3 study, and to suggest implications for optimal care. Data from 13 European countries were collected at a single time-point (2011–2013). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression (MLR) analyses were performed. A total of 532 PWH were included with either hemophilia A (n = 467) or hemophilia B (n = 65). A total of 127 (24%) were diagnosed with CLD. Hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), total cholesterol, and severe hemophilia were significant risk factors in univariate logistic regressions. In MLR, HCV Ab+/PCR+ (OR = 17.6, P

ConclusionThis study clarifies the differential lipid profiles to distinguish MSPH from MPH and the pathway which is influenced under the condition of MSPH. Also, it provides a resource to look for potential therapeutic targets for MSPH.

In this line, psyllium presents a high content of soluble fiber, associated with health benefits.Scope and approachThe aim of this review is to evaluate the scientific evidence of psyllium health benefits. The nutritional properties of ps...

CONCLUSION: Despite differences between adults with SCI and adults with CVD in several demographic and health-related measures, the overall similarity in PARs for SCI and CVD suggests potential benefits from using effective CVD interventions to address SCI. PMID: 31835014 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Baer A, Fagalde MS, Drake CD, Sohlberg EH, Barash E, Glick S, Millman AJ, Duchin JS Abstract INTRODUCTION: With the goal of eliminating hepatitis C virus (HCV) as a public health problem in Washington State, Public Health-Seattle &King County (PHSKC) designed a Hepatitis C Virus Test and Cure (HCV-TAC) data system to integrate surveillance, clinical, and laboratory data into a comprehensive database. The intent of the system was to promote identification, treatment, and cure of HCV-infected persons (ie, HCV care cascade) using a population health approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The data system aut...

Conclusions: An ERE was identified in the SREBP2 gene promoter. It mediates the regulation of SREBP2 expression by estrogen in hepatocytes. This study provides a mechanism to link cardiovascular disease with estrogen. PMID: 31827541 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Twumasi C, Asiedu L, Nortey ENN Abstract Several mathematical and standard epidemiological models have been proposed in studying infectious disease dynamics. These models help to understand the spread of disease infections. However, most of these models are not able to estimate other relevant disease metrics such as probability of first infection and recovery as well as the expected time to infection and recovery for both susceptible and infected individuals. That is, most of the standard epidemiological models used in estimating transition probabilities (TPs) are not able to generalize the transition esti...

Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a group of heterogeneous disorders commonly presenting with episodes of hyperglycemia and glucose intolerance, as a result of lack of insulin, ineffective insulin action, and/or both. It is our interest to study the effect of ethanolic extract of Trigonella foenum seeds (fenugreek) and Coriandrum sativum leaves (dhaniya) or its combination in alloxan induced diabetes mellitus wistar albino rats. Rats were randomly separated into six groups where group 1 animals received 2% acacia, group 2 animals received alloxan dose of 150 mg/kg, group 3 animals received glibenclamide dose of 0.5 mg...

Purpose To evaluate the effects of the combination of exercise training (ET) and statins in people living with human immunodeficiency virus. Methods This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Eighty-three people living with human immunodeficiency virus were assigned to either placebo (PL), statins (STA), PL + ET (PLET) or STA + ET (STAET) groups. Volunteers assigned to STA and STAET groups were administered 10 mg of rosuvastatin, whereas the PL and PLET groups were administered a placebo. The PLET and STAET groups performed ET three times a week. Before and after the 12-wk follow-up, the v...

Authors: Le P, Chaitoff A, Rothberg MB, McCullough A, Alkhouri N Abstract BackgroundWe aimed to estimate population-based trends in prevalence of coexisting type 2 diabetes (T2D) and suspected non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and pioglitazone use among US adults.Research design and methodsWe conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2003-2016. We included people aged ≥18 years who had HbA1C>6.4%, fasting plasma glucose>125 mg/dL, or were told they had diabetes by a doctor. Suspected NAFLD was defined using hepatic steatosis index of>36. Pr...
