Primary care physicians ’ perceived barriers and facilitators to conservative care for older adults with chronic kidney disease: design of a mixed methods study
ConclusionsThis work will inform development of clinical resources and tools for care of older adults with stage 5 CKD, to address barriers and enable facilitators to community-based conservative care.
AbstractCardiovascular disease (CVD) is a life-limiting comorbidity in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In childhood, imaging studies have demonstrated early phenotypic characteristics including increases in left ventricular mass, carotid artery intima-media thickness, and pulse wave velocity, which occur even in young children with early stages of CKD. Vascular calcifications are the signature of an advanced phenotype and are mainly found in adolescents and young adults treated with dialysis. Association studies have provided valuable information regarding the significance of a multitude of risk factors in prom...
AbstractBackgroundEnteral feeding by tube in chronic kidney disease (CKD) before 2 years of age improves growth. Whether it is effective after this age is unknown. We assessed whether height and weight SDS changed after tube feeding was started in children with CKD above 2 years of age.MethodsRetrospective study of pre-transplant, pre-pubertal children (
CONCLUSION: Remote ischemic preconditioning did not modify irisin or troponin I expression, independent of the time of collection. PMID: 31799981 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSION: In this small pilot study, cholecalciferol treatment appeared to increase serum phosphorous concentrations compared to ergocalciferol. These observations may warrant further large-scale studies that are appropriately powered to validate such findings. PMID: 31804923 [PubMed - in process]
Authors: Jha VK, Jairam A, Mahapatra D Abstract Oral anticoagulants are commonly prescribed in patients with kidney diseases having atrial fibrillation and thromboembolic risk. It is very important to understand their clinical pharmacology and changes that may occur as GFR declines. Risks and benefits of newer oral anticoagulants are different in patients with CKD and patients with ESRD. Patients with GFR
Conclusion: CKD-MBD is common among patients on hemodialysis in our center. Screening for CKD-MBD and appropriate use of phosphate binder and Vitamin D when indicated are highly recommended.
A 34 year-old female with Stage V chronic kidney disease secondary to a history of sickle cell anemia and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and on peritoneal dialysis presented to our hospital for imaging as part of routine evaluation for renal transplant. Upon receiving an MRI of the abdomen to evaluate liver architecture and kidney anatomy, a 6.6 cm left perinephric mass was incidentally found inferomedial to the left kidney and extending caudally (Figure 1). The renal parenchyma and ureter were uninvolved.
ConclusionOur study showed excellent efficacy with the safety profile of this drug combination in end-stage renal disease patients. However, larger prospective studies and multicenter randomized controlled trials are needed for further confirmation.

Harvesting tissue from failing kidneys and autotransplantation of expanded committed progenitors giving rise to renal parenchyma could theoretically allow for the restoration of kidney function delaying or preventing the need for dialysis or a renal allograft. Here we utilized healthy and end-stage human adult kidneys to robustly expand proliferative kidney epithelial cells and establish 3D-kidney epithelial ...
CONCLUSION: There is a high CKD burden in the ME countries. There needs to be emphasis on prevention of ESRD and provision of adequate care for the total ESRD patient population. National renal registries are needed to monitor the status of ESRD patients. Health expenditures should be increased to cover all aspects of RRT in ME Countries.
