Medrobotics touts first EU sale of Flex robotic platform

Medrobotics today touted the first sale of its Flex robotics surgical platform in Europe. The Raynham, Mass.-based company said it sold the system to Italy’s A.O. Universitaria Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, making the facility the first in Europe to offer procedures with the platform. Medrobotics Flex robotic surgical platform is intended for use in minimally invasive surgical procedures, and is designed specifically to access hard to reach anatomy in otolaryngology, colorectal and gastroenterology procedures, the company said. “Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Europe. Patients with cancer and non-malignant lesions are treated by gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons. The Flex robotic system offers physicians the possibility of treating patients more easily and less invasively than might otherwise be possible with traditional flexible endoscopes,” Medrobotics prez & CEO Samuel Straface said in a prepared release. In January, Medrobotics said that it won an expanded indication from the FDA for its Flex robot-assisted surgery device, adding robot-assisted visualization in general surgical, gynecological and thoracic procedures to its 510(k) clearance.
