Invited Perspective on “The Molecular Intersection Between Senescence and Major Depression in the Elderly”

Biologic aging —especially the boundaries between normal and pathologic aging—is a matter of constant research and debate. Also, clinical psychiatrists, neurologists, and geriatricians are frequently faced with the question of whether late-life depression (LLD) is clinically and neurobiologically different fro m early-onset depression. In our daily clinical practice and research settings, determining the differential diagnosis and comorbidities between LLD, dementia, and frailty is challenging.1 These are complex and multifactorial conditions, and there is a need for the development of more specific appro aches that will allow clinicians to better differentiate each of them.
