Early removal of metal stents in walled off pancreatic necrosis

Endoscopic transmural drainage is the preferred drainage route for walled off necrosis (WON) with larger diameter transmural tract dilatation and placement of multiple plastic stents being advocated to achieve effective drainage of solid necrotic material [1]. Development of dedicated fully covered large diameter metal stents made the management of WON with significant solid debris easier. These stents are easy to deploy with high rate technical success. Also, direct endoscopic necrosectomy (DEN) can be easily performed through the large calibre stent [2].
