The Effect of OMS Curriculum Design on USMLE Step 1 Performance

Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) residents ’ performance on United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 has historically been a point of concern for medical schools accepting OMS residents into an MD integrated curriculum. Many medical schools require significant pre-clinical classes for these residents, in part, because of the concern that an OMS resident will have a difficult time passing USMLE Step 1 without additional, formal pre-clinical instruction.
