HLA-DQ2 and -DQ8 haplotypes frequency and diagnostic utility in celiac disease patients of Gaza strip, Palestine
ConclusionsAbsence of HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 genotyping in the workup of patients may result in CD misdiagnosis, particularly in a setting with poor histopathological diagnostic capacity.
Recent epidemiological studies suggest that non-IgE-mediated childhood food allergic disorders such as eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), celiac disease and allergic gastroenteritis (AG), may be increasing in parallel with previously observed increases in childhood IgE-mediated food allergy (FA) and food-induced anaphylaxis (FIA)1-4. The term AG encompasses food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), eosinophilic enteritis and colitis, food protein induced enteropathy, food hypersensitivity enteritis and colitis, but not EOE.
Gamma chain ( γc) cytokines (interleukin 2 [IL2], IL4, IL7, IL9, IL15 and IL21) signal via a common γc receptor. IL2 regulates the immune response, whereas IL21 and IL15 contribute to development of autoimmune disorders, including celiac disease. We investigated whether BNZ-2, a peptide designed to inhibit IL15 and IL21, blocks these cytokines selectively and its effects on intraepithelial cytotoxic T cells.
We present a woman with a three-year history of severe chronic urticaria and recurrent vulvo-vaginal Candidiasis in the setting of seasonal allergic rhinitis. Her past medical history was significant only for Bell's palsy in her childhood. Her review of systems was otherwise negative (specifically: no history of diarrhea, weight loss, malabsorption, anemia, nor eczema). Extensive testing revealed seasonal sensitivities to outdoor allergens and celiac disease. Repeating the evaluation six months after initiating a wheat-free diet, her vulvo-vaginal symptoms resolved. Conclusions: Our study confirms that CD and PWAG share comorbidities of autoimmune nature. PWAG had more autoimmune/allergy-related disorders that may be associated with non-celiac gluten sensitivity a self-justifiable reason to be on the diet.
Conclusion: This study is the largest to date analyzing the potential influence of neighborhood deprivation on ADs. Our results indicate that neighborhood deprivation may affect risk of ADs, independent of individual level sociodemographic characteristics. For health care policies, both individual and neighborhood level approaches seem to be of importance.
