ConclusionsChildren with neutrophil-predominant severe asthma have proinflammatory neutrophils with enhanced survival. Airway macrophages are also proinflammatory and dysfunctional and may contribute to global innate immune impairment. Therapies that target neutrophils and related inflammation may be warranted in this subset of children.
