Intergrating conventional MRI, texture analysis of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI, and susceptibility weighted imaging for glioma grading.

Intergrating conventional MRI, texture analysis of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI, and susceptibility weighted imaging for glioma grading. Acta Radiol. 2018 Sep 23;:284185118801127 Authors: Su CQ, Lu SS, Han QY, Zhou MD, Hong XN Abstract Background The application of conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in glioma grading is limited and non-specific. Purpose To investigate the application values of MRI, texture analysis (TA) of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) and intratumoral susceptibility signal (ITSS) on susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI), alone and in combination, for glioma grading. Material and Methods Fifty-two patients with pathologically confirmed gliomas who underwent DCE-MRI and SWI were enrolled in this retrospective study. Conventional MRIs were evaluated by the VASARI scoring system. TA of DCE-MRI-derived parameters and the degree of ITSS were compared between low-grade gliomas (LGGs) and high-grade gliomas (HGGs). The diagnostic ability of each parameter and their combination for glioma grading were analyzed. Results Significant statistical differences in VASARI features were observed between LGGs and HGGs ( P

Conclusion Prior cortical activity as induced by the priming stimulation has a profound impact on the responsiveness to the nrTMS mapping paradigm. Our findings further showed that metaplasticity, a type of homeostatic plastic process, could be elicited even in cortical areas affected by a growing tumor. ConclusionrCBV and mean PSR were useful in grading and differentiating infratentorial tumors. Proper cutoff values were important in the accuracy of perfusion-weighted imaging in posterior fossa tumors.

In this study, we discover that NRF2 also propels tumorigenesis in gliomas and glioblastomas by inducing the expression of the transcriptional co-activator TAZ, a protein of the Hippo signaling pathway that promotes tumor growth. The expression of the genes encoding NRF2 (NFE2L2) and TAZ (WWTR1) showed a positive correlation in 721 gliomas from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Moreover, NRF2 and TAZ protein levels also correlated in immunohistochemical tissue arrays of glioblastomas. Genetic knock-down of NRF2 decreased, while NRF2 overexpression or chemical activation with sulforaphane, increased TAZ transcript and prote...

CONCLUSIONS: The effect of different imaging strategies on survival and other health outcomes remains largely unknown. Existing imaging schedules in glioma seem to be pragmatic rather than evidence-based. The limited evidence suggesting that early post-operative brain imaging among GBM patients who will receive combined chemoradiation treatment may make little or no difference to survival needs to be further researched, particularly as early post-operative imaging also serves as a quality control measure that may lead to early re-operation if residual tumour is identified. Mathematical modelling of a large glioma patient d...

In this study, onset age, tumor site, tumor increment coefficient, molecular detection, treatment methods, and prognosis of 54 patients were summarized from 19 studies. DLGNT patients are characterized by more singular tumor site, smaller volume, lower increment coefficient, and longer stable disease period. Patients with DLGNT may also have a longer stable condition in cases of molecular detection of 1p/19q deletion, or BRAF fusion.

ConclusionsA deep learning model was developed to diagnose the molecular subtype preoperatively based on multi-modality data in order to predict the 3-group classification directly. Cross-validation showed that the proposed model had an overall accuracy of 68.7% for the test dataset. This is the first model to double the expected value for a 3-group classification problem, when predicting the LGG molecular subtype.

AbstractHypophysitis (HP) is a rare acute or chronic inflammatory condition of the pituitary gland. The greatest challenge in the management of HP is establishing a diagnosis through clinical criteria and non-invasive methods and predicting the patients ’ clinical outcome. The aim of this review is to describe the neuroradiological findings of this rare disease, providing some information regarding the possible differential diagnosis in order to avoid unnecessary surgery. Gadolinium-enhanced pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considere d the neuroradiological investigation of choice. The features suggestiv...

CONCLUSIONBy extending the U-net model to a deeper layer and adding the residual structure to ensure effective and stable training of the model, the experiment results demonstrate that applying the improved Deeper ResU-net can effectively eliminate the degradation phenomenon of deep network and improve segmentation performance.
