In zebrafish, a way to find new cancer therapies, targeting tumor modulators

This study tested>3,800 drugs in high-throughput fashion and found that retinoic acid, best known as an acne treatment, may be effective for adenoid cystic carcinoma. A clinical trial is now being planned at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

We present a case of a woman on neratinib for HER-2 positive infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the right breast who presented to the dermatology clinic with changes to the fingernails, acne, and a rash on the face. Physical examination revealed erythema, induration, and some serum crust along the lateral nail folds of the right 4th and left 3rd digits as well as monomorphic acneiform papules and pustules on the face. The timeline of the patient's paronychia and acneiform rash were consistent with a diagnosis of neratinib-associated skin changes. The patient was prescribed doxycycline to control the acneiform eruption. For t...

AbstractTopical photodynamic therapy (PDT) using daylight is effective in the treatment of actinic keratoses (AKs), offering the potential for treatment of large fields such as full face and balding scalp, but with minimal therapy-associated pain. Comparison with conventional PDT indicates similar efficacy for thin and moderate-thickness AKs, but with significantly less discomfort/pain, driving a patient preference for daylight-mediated PDT (DL-PDT) compared with conventional PDT using high-intensity office/hospital-based light sources. Treatment protocol involves the application of a photosensitizing agent without occlusi...

Conclusion: TKIs shows an acceptable toxicity profile in patients with advanced and progressive RAI refractory DTC and MTC but only in experienced hands familiar with TKIs, particularly with diagnostics and management of treatment-related complications and also with thyroid carcinoma, what is essential to safely care for the patients and keep them on kinase inhibitor therapy as long as the treatment is beneficial without an unfavorable impact on their quality of life. Abstract Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) are well known persistent and toxic environmental pollutants. Our aim was to identify effects of moderate-high exposure to dioxin-like (dl) and non-dioxin-like (ndl)-PCBs on the skin in order to provide more insight in the pathophysiological effects of these compounds. We performed a dermatological examination on 92 former workers from a transformer recycling company with known elevated serum PCB and/or dioxin (polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin/polychlorinated dibenzo-p-furan (PCDD/F)) levels. In addition, we performed a skin cancer screening over a period of seven years (20...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Over the last few years only one large randomized phase III study has tried to prospectively assess the safety of cetuximab and panitumumab in a head-to-head comparison. Despite the similar overall toxicity profile, cetuximab and panitumumab retain peculiar safety characteristics that deserve to be deeply investigated. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review for randomized trials in PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and EMBASE using the terms ("cetuximab" or "panitumumab") AND ("colorectal cancer" OR "c...
