In a prospective matched cohort study, Bourgeois and colleagues examined the prevalence of psychotic disorders in sexually abused persons between the time of abuse and the beginning of adulthood. Sexually abused youth had a 10-fold Increase in risk for psychotic disorders compared to the general population. Identification of risk factors and trajectories of psychopathology In sexually abused youth is critical for prevention and early intervention efforts.
