I work in clinical neurology and at this point in time PD is still a clinical diagnosis. If there is any uncertainty we request a DATscan which is a trade name for a FP-CIT SPECT scan. Any parkinsonian syndrome would show as reduced dopamine uptake in the basal ganglia of the brain.
