The use of heterologous bovine pericardium in the surgical treatment of large tracheo-oesophageal fistulas and dilaceration of the membranous wall of the trachea. Case report.

We present the case of a 32 years old female patient with multiple trauma due to traffic accident. The patient was hospitalized with the diagnosis of brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and fractured femur. After 11 days of mechanical ventilation and intubation via endotracheal route, the patient was diagnosed with a large (7x3 cm) tracheo-oesophageal fistula with dilaceration of the membranous wall of the trachea. A cervical and right thoracic approach was performed to repair the tracheo-oesophageal fistula. The reconstruction of the membranous wall of the trachea was performed by using heterologous bovine pericardium patch, and the of the esophageal defect using single-layer suture protected by a heterologous bovine pericardium patch. The postoperative evolution was favorable, the patient being discharged 22 days postoperatively and in good health after 6 months. To our knowledge this is the first reported case regarding the use of two heterologous bovine pericardium in the surgical treatment of large tracheo-oesophageal fistula with dilaceration of the membranous wall of the trachea to reconstruct the membranous wall of the trachea and to protect the esophageal suture. In this study we examined the consequences of such changes for the growth and photo‐physiology of two diatoms by mimicking the scenarios that correspond to present day and that predicted for the end of this century. Elevated light induced higher rates of damage to photosystem II (PSII) that significantly reduced photochemical yields of both diatoms. Treatments including UV radiation induced ~ 50% inhibition of PSII under present PAR levels. Generally, warming alleviated UVR inhibition, resulting in higher photochemical yields, and faster recovery during dim light exposure. Therefore, concurrent increase of irradiance and...

CONCLUSIONS: TAMIS is an innovative technique that may be considered for the treatment of benign diseases like anastomotic complications, benign rectal stenosis, anastomotic explorations with lavage and drainage, rectal ulcus, and rectal intussusception. It can be used to search for a good plane of dissection, which cannot be found through the abdominal anterior approach. It can also be adopted for removal of early malignant rectal polyps and for TaTME. The technique described here allows the surgeons to work under ergonomic conditions, with completely reusable materials, and with a magnified view of the operative field, a...

Conclusions: The expression of ERCC1 and NF- κ B give a worse prognosis for relapse, and only ERCC1 had an influence on the overall survival of TGCT patients treated with platinum-based chemotherapy. These may represent markers that predict poor clinical outcome and response to cisplatin.

AbstractThe family of AlkB homolog (ALKBH) proteins, the homologs ofEscherichia coli AlkB 2 ‐oxoglutarate (2OG), and Fe(II)‐dependent dioxygenase are involved in a number of important regulatory processes in eukaryotic cells including repair of alkylation lesions in DNA, RNA, and nucleoprotein complexes. There are nine human and thirteenArabidopsis thaliana ALKBH proteins described, which exhibit diversified functions. Among them, human ALKBH5 and FaT mass and Obesity ‐associated (FTO) protein and Arabidopsis ALKBH9B and ALKBH10B have been recognized as N6 methyladenine (N6meA) demethylases, the most abundant posttra...

Conclusion: PRP treats ONFH mainly through three mechanisms: inducing angiogenesis and osteogenesis to accelerate bone healing, inhibiting inflammatory reactions in necrotic lesions, and preventing apoptosis induced by glucocorticoids. In addition, as an adjunctive therapy for core decompression, the use of PRP is recommended to improve the treatment of early-stage ONFH patients, especially when combined with stem cells and bone grafts, by inducing osteogenic activity and stimulating the differentiation of stem cells in necrotic lesions.
