PCA Holds Ecuadorian Ruling 'Grossly Violated' Chevron's Procedural Rights
THE HAGUE, Netherlands - After determining that a $9.5 billion judgment issued in an environmental lawsuit in Ecuador was contrary to international public policy and violated the procedural rights of Chevron Corp. and Texaco Petroleum Corp., a tribunal for the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) on Aug. 30 issued an award in their favor and against the Republic of Ecuador, holding that the award should not be enforced anywhere (Chevron Corporation, et al. v. The Republic of Ecuador, No. 2009-23, PCA).
