Conclusion: The increases in the incidence of different types of cancer in the past decade could be due to the revolutionary change in socioeconomic status that has occurred in Saudi Arabia; therefore, a national plan should be established for cancer prevention, screening and therapy. Concerning mortality, the decrease in its percentage among elderly people could be due to biological factors that should be investigated in the future. PMID: 30520511 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusion: The two applicators studied have different dosimetric properties conferring specific advantages and disadvantages as far as dose to OARs and target is concerned. Both applicators provide good reproducibility. The choice of applicator would ultimately depend on the clinical outcomes of these dosimetric differences which need to be prospectively analyzed.

The objective of the present study was to provide an updated overview of site-specific cancer research investment in Canada and to explore potential discrepancies between the site-specific burden and the level of research investment. Methods: The 10 cancer sites with the highest mortality in 2015-which included brain, female breast, colorectal, leukemia, lung, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, ovary, pancreas, prostate, and uterus-were selected for the analysis. Information about site-specific research investment and cancer burden (raw incidence and mortality) was obtained from the Canadian Cancer Research Survey and Statistics Ca...

In conclusion, midlife overweight is associated with increased risk of late‐life colon, liver, and uterine cancer but reduced risk of late‐life non‐melanoma skin cancer. Further investigations are warranted t o explore the role of genetic and early‐life environmental factors in these associations. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

CONCLUSIONThe considered clinical and biological features, at MPN diagnosis, were not different in cases with SC and controls. During the course of the disease, three factors significantly and independently affected the risk of SC in these MPN patients: 1) patients with PV had a 77% higher risk than those with ET, 2) patients with MPN duration of more than 5 years had a twice higher risk than those with lower duration, 3) for the first time, we documented that in non-skin solid cancers, aspirin treatment reduced SC risk of 38%. Exposure to HU and other cytoreductive drugs was confirmed as a risk factor for non-melanoma ski...

Conclusions: Isolated distal DVT cases made up only a small percentage of all diagnosed incident CAT events for all cancer types analyzed, with the 2-year cumulative incidence ranging from 0.5% - 2.0% for stage 4 patients. Subsequent rVTE events in these patients were principally PE or p-DVT (73%). D-DVT was not a significant predictor of rVTE. A diagnosis of incident d-DVT was strongly associated with worse survival, and for most cancers, survival was similar among patients with an incident p-DVT or PE.DisclosuresNo relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic utility of PET-CT in differential diagnosis of MPE.Patients with pleural effusion and cancer who underwent PE T-CT were studied. Thoracentesis was performed for all cases.Sudy population consisted of 69 patients with a mean age of 63.55. Definitive diagnosis of MPE was confirmed by cytopathology In 16 cases, effusion was paramalignant. Malignant cells were detected in fluids with no FDG uptake in 13 lung cancer, 3 mesothelioma, 2 breast cancer, 2 colon cancer, 1 ovarian cancer, 1 gastric cancerand 1 endometrium cancer cases. The sensitivity of PET-CT in malignant pleural effusion is foun...

Functional analysis of protein disulfide isomerase P5 in glioblastoma cells as a novel anticancer target. Oncol Rep. 2018 Nov 15;: Authors: Horibe T, Torisawa A, Masuda Y, Kawakami K Abstract P5, which is a member of the protein disulfide isomerase family, possesses isomerase and chaperone activity in vitro; however, the physiological functions of this enzyme in cells remain unclear. To understand the important roles of P5 in cancer cells, the present study examined its expression on the surface of normal and cancer cell lines by flow cytometry using an affinity‑purified anti‑P5 antibody ...

Abstract Background: Cancer survivors suffer from many comorbid conditions even after the cure of their cancers beyond 5 years. We explored the differences in the association of comorbid conditions between the cancer survivors and patients without cancer. Methods: Electronic medical records of 280 adult cancer survivors and 280 age-matched patients without cancer in our suburban internal medicine office were reviewed. Results: Mean age of the cancer survivors was 72.5 ± 13.1 years, and the age of the patients without cancer was 72.5 ± 12.8 years. The number of male cancer survivors was sign...
