Turning off the brain's pain center could treat chronic nerve pain, scientists discover

The spinal cord usually has a block between signals for 'pain' and 'touch,' but not in those with nerve damage. Boston Children's Hospital researchers found the root of this signal confusion.

CONCLUSION: On the basis of a broadly based research and participatory development process, a set of indicators has been developed that enables comprehensive evaluation of the regional quality of care of cross-indication, integrated care models focusing on common diseases. In order to be able to increasingly evaluate aspects of care coordination and patient orientation, health promotion as well as nursing, palliative and emergency care in the future, it would be helpful if routine data were collected or made accessible in these areas as well. This study aimed to evaluate lumbar lordosis during sit-to-stand (STS) and stand-to-sit (SIT) in individuals with and without chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP). The second objective was to investigate sex-related differences in lumbar lordosis.

Conclusions: The results revealed that activation of mGluR8 in PAG is not capable of improving the thermal hyperalgesia threshold. Based on the decreased expression of mGluR8 after SCI induced by clip compression injury and its significant increase after treatment of siRNA against mGluR8, this method might still hold promise as an effective treatment of neuropathic pain. It can be concluded that increased expression of mGluR8 is due to the fact that DCPG prevents the death of neurons that express these receptors. PMID: 32460469 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Chronic pain can have a devastating impact and lead to patient isolation. Many people with chronic pain are predisposed to anxiety-depressant symptoms, due to a lower quality life. The aim of the study is to demonstrate how neuromodulation methods, can encourage the reduction of chronic pain and an improvement in the quality of life, therefore advancing the restoration of psychological well-being. We involved 50 patients with a diagnosis of pain that not respond to traditional pharmacological therapies. Interventions: All subject had depression and anxiety symptoms and a low-quality life. We used the spinal cord stimulati...

AbstractInjured somatosensory nervous system cause neuropathic pain which is quite difficult to treat using current approaches. It is therefore important to find new therapeutic options. We have analyzed cedrol effect on chronic constriction injury (CCI) induced neuropathic pain in rats. The mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity were evaluated using the von Frey filament, radiant heat and acetone drop methods. The changes in the levels of biomarkers of oxidative stress including malondialdehyde (MDA) and total thiol (SH), as well as inflammatory mediators including Tumour Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF- α) and Interleu...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe purpose of this narrative review is to inform readers of the particular impact opioids have had on midlife women and to provide perspective on non-opioid treatment options for women with chronic low back pain.Recent FindingsResearch has shown that midlife women experience more chronic low back pain than men and other age groups of women. As a result, opioids have been particularly deleterious in this demographic group. In addition, there are no data to recommend them for long-term use, while there is a breadth of data on the negative consequences of long-term opioid use. Treatment guidelines no...
