Authors: Lu X, Forte AJ, Sawh-Martinez R, Wu R, Cabrejo R, Wilson A, Steinbacher DM, Alperovich M, Alonso N, Persing JA Abstract The dysplastic maxilla and retracted zygoma characterize Apert's syndrome. The relationship between the cranial base and facial development is believed to be influential and substantial. The purpose of this study is to explore the temporal relationships of maldevelopment of these structures to identify potential influence patterns. Fifty-four CT scans (unoperated Apert's, n = 18; control, n = 36) were included and divided into three age subgroups (0-6 months, 6 months-2 years, and 2-6 yea...

Authors: Vollaro A, Catania MR, Iesce MR, Sferruzza R, D'Abrosca B, Donnarumma G, De Filippis A, Cermola F, DellaGreca M, Buommino E Abstract Antibiotic resistance and biofilm tolerance are among the principal factors involved in the persistence of chronic infections. The need for new antimicrobials is an ever-increasing challenge in clinical environments and in the control of global health. Arylfurans form a set of structures that have been identified in many natural products, e.g. lignans. Lignans are a sub-group of non-flavonoid polyphenols that play an active role in plants' defense against bacteria and fungi i...

In this study, the graphene was prepared by liquid phase exfoliation method, and then through microfluidization technique it was uniformly dispersed into SAE 10W-30 lubricating oil. The lubricating oils without graphene and with four different graphene concentrations were tested twice respectively on a pin-on-disc tribometer under high specific pressure of 10 MPa and low linear velocity of 0.3 m/s. After testing, the scratches on discs were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and three-dimensional (3D) surface metrology system. The oil with 0.05 wt% graphene exhibited the minimum friction coefficient, lowe...

RaoAbstractSilver coating of different thicknesses ranging from 5 to 20 nm was deposited on the Ti6Al4V substrate using DC sputtering followed by thermal annealing at 750 °C for 15 min in an ambient environment. The surface topography and elemental composition of annealed samples were analyzed using different characterization techniques. The silver ions (Ag+) concentration released from the modified titanium surface was calculated through inductive co...
