Next-Generation Evaluation and Treatment of Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Advancement in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is one of the greatest successes of modern medicine. Over the past 50 years, there has been a rapid increase in overall survival for pediatric ALL (Figure  1). Several factors have led to these remarkable improvements. First is the development of risk-adapted therapy based on both clinical and biological presenting features, as well as early response to treatment.2 Second, the effectiveness of molecularly targeted agents for specific genetic abnorma lities has boosted outcomes for some high-risk groups.
