Contract manufacturer Minnetronix has a new med-tech customer: itself

Minnetronix, a 22-year-old medical technology business based in St. Paul, has long specialized as a contract manufacturer — building med-tech devices designed by other firms. It's now growing beyond that role with a new product developed in-house. The Star Tribune reports on the milestone at Minnetronix, which is working on a device Neurapheresis Therapy that is designed to decontaminate cerebrospinal fluid after a hemorrhagic stroke. The brain needs that fluid clean to function, but the bleeding…

In this study, 72% of the patients had suffered from intracranial haemorrhage. Imaging analysis was performed using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to assess changes in white matter after intervention. We investigated white matter change before and after intervention and the relationship between white matter structure and motor function recovery using tract-based spatial statistics. The intra-voxel directional coherence was significantly incre ased in the anterior limb of the internal capsule and anterior thalamic radiation on the lesional side following intervention. Mean diffusivity and radial diffusivity values of cluste...

AbstractThe goal of this paper is to review literature on the topic of anticoagulation resumption after stroke from atrial fibrillation. Following ischemic stroke, the average annual risk of recurrent stroke in a patient with a CHADS2 score of 9 is 12.2%%, translating to an average daily risk of 0.03%%. Oral anticoagulant therapy provides a 75% relative risk reduction. However, in the 2-week period immediately following an acute stroke, this daily risk appears to be elevated. The same period is associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic transformation of ischemic stroke due to reperfusion, impaired autoregulation, an...

CONCLUSIONS: Thrombectomy appears to be a safe and effective method for the treatment of acute M2 segment occlusions of the MCA. Most of the cases had a dominant M2 branch, and all of them were occluded. Larger studies are needed to verify the benefits of thrombectomy for different settings of M2 occlusions. We present a case report of a patient who underwent a mechanical thrombectomy for stroke and suffered from vasospasm. This severe flow-limiting vasospasm was successfully treated with the Trevo stent device. Although stent retrievers have become more widespread for thrombectomy, vasospasm treatment has not been often described in the literature. Further study is needed to determine if this is a viable technique for treating resistant vasospasm. PMID: 31088245 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We determine usefulness of serum Lp-PLA2 as a prognostic biomarker for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).MethodsIn this prospective, observational study, serum Lp-PLA2 concentrations were detected among 164 patients with acute spontaneous basal ganglia hemorrhage and 164 healthy controls. Using...

CONCLUSION: The present meta-analysis indicates that aircraft noise increases the risk of stroke, even if the overall finding just fails to reach statistical significance. The differing measures of exposure in the included studies, the lack of differentiation be- tween ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, and the lack of consideration of maximum noise levels are all factors that may have led to a marked underestimation of the risk of stroke. Conclusions The combined use of Neuroform EZ stent placement and the modified techniques for symptomatic severe ICAS is technically feasible and safe, with very low peri-procedural complications. Further studies are required to assess the long-term results of this approach.

Objectives: To evaluate enhanced renal clearance over time in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage or intracerebral hemorrhage via measured creatinine clearance and to compare measured creatinine clearance to creatinine clearance calculated by the Cockcroft-Gault equation and estimated glomerular filtration rate calculated by the Modification of Diet in Renal Diseases equation. Design: Prospective, observational study. Setting: Neurosciences ICU in a tertiary care academic medical center. Patients: Study participants had an admission diagnosis of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage or intracerebral he...
