Authors: Liu C, Han M, Zhao L, Zhu M, Xu Q, Song Y, Wang H Abstract OBJECTIVE: This research aimed to explore the significance of low activity of ADAMTS-13 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) after bone morrow transplantation (BMT), and to evaluate the disease progress and prognosis of the patients with low or normal activity of ADAMTS-13 after BMT. METHODS: 46 AML patients were included in our research. ADAMTS-13 activity was measured before BMT. Their medical indicators were recorded one month after BMT. All the patients were followed up and their disease progression was evaluated afterwards. The medical indicato...

Abstract PURPOSE: Post-operative pulmonary function is an important prognostic factor for lung transplantation. The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting recovery of forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) at the first year after lung transplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of lung transplantation patients between October 2012 and June 2016. Patients who survived for longer than one year and who underwent pulmonary function test at the first year of lung transplantation were enrolled. Patients were divided into two groups according to wheth...

Authors: Parashar P, Tripathi CB, Arya M, Kanoujia J, Singh M, Yadav A, Kumar A, Guleria A, Saraf SA Abstract Co-therapy through biotin modified nanoparticles (NPs) of gefitinib (Gnb) and naringenin (Nar) was investigated for its therapeutic and synergistic potential against lung cancer. The biotin-conjugated polymeric NPs (bty-Nar/Gnb) were developed using oil in water emulsion technique and optimized using central composite design. The formulations were subjected to various in vitro (A549 cell lines) and in vivo evaluations in urethane-induced lung cancer. Co-administration of Gnb and Nar NPs displayed a signific...

ConclusionWe proposed and investigated the fiducial-less tracking method to follow tumor motion in the real-time under the influence of respiration. The study shows the feasibility of accurately predicting the tumor ’s position with the use of lung-diaphragm border’s information through available kV images without gold fiducial markers. This developed diaphragm disparity-analysis-based approach, verified with clinically accepted errors, has the potential to replace fiducial markers in clinical applications.

ConclusionsLung and liver transplantation in AATD patients are associated with very good long-term survival rates that are comparable to, and sometimes superior to, other transplant indications. Although not currently recommended in AATD, LVRS may have a role in a minority of patients. The value of Alpha 1 Antitrypsin (AAT) augmentation therapy following lung transplantation requires further study. Wherever possible, AAT therapy should be continued in the period around elective surgeries.SummaryAlthough AATD is a widely discussed and researched topic in the literature, surgical intervention for AATD, in addition to the man...

Recipient and donor age are well-known prognostic factors in adult heart transplantation. However, the association between donor and recipient age and their interaction and short- and long-term mortality is unknown.

Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is a genetic cause of emphysema/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and liver disease, making AATD patients a high-risk surgical group. Additionally, patients may eventually require lung and/or liver transplantation or lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS). This narrative review discusses perioperative considerations for elective procedures in AATD patients, and reviews patient outcomes in AATD-related transplantation and LVRS.

AbstractPatients with autoimmune disease –related interstitial lung disease (AID-ILD) occasionally develop radiologic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (PPFE)–like lesions. However, the significance of AID as an etiology of PPFE has not been fully elucidated. The aim of this study is to verify the increase of elastic fibers in AID-ILD p atients and evaluate the prevalence of histological PPFE in patients with AID-ILD. We selected cases of clinically diagnosed AID-ILD and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), in which an autopsy had been performed or in which the patient had undergone pneumonectomy for lung transp...
