Evaluation of Aberrant Metabolism Related Proteins in Oral Submucous Fibrosis: A Pilot Study

This study aims to examine the altered metabolism-related proteins using immunohistochemistry (IHC).MethodsThe expression levels of glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1), hexokinase 2 (HK2), and fatty acid synthase (FASN) were analyzed in normal oral mucosa (NOM) (n = 30) and oral sub mucous fibrosis (OSF) (n = 30) using IHC. The degree of intensity and distribution of immunostaining was semi-quantitatively assessed.ResultsThe expression levels of GLUT-1, HK 2, and FASN were higher in the OSF group (p

In conclusion, we show here that sEVs are responsible for mediating paracrine senescence and speculate that they could be involved in inducing bystander senescence during therapy-induced senescence or aging. In fact, when compared to soluble factors, sEVs have different biophysical and biochemical properties as they have a longer lifespan than do soluble factors and they are more resistant to protease degradation. The idea that blocking sEV secretion could be a potential therapeutic approach to alleviate senescence "spreading" during chemotherapy-induced senescence or in aging tissues presents itself as a very at...

AbstractPositron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is a standard procedure for imaging cancer commonly used in the clinical practice for several diseases, in particular for cancer staging, restaging, treatment monitoring and radiation therapy planning. Despite the availability of many radiotracers, 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-2-d-glucose ([18F]FDG) is the most used. International PET/CT guidelines propose protocols for patients ’ correct preparation before [18F]FDG injection, in particular with the regard of diabetic patients and therapy management. Hyperglycemic conditions and oral or insulin medication showed...

AbstractHead and neck cancers, including those of the lip and oral cavity, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, oropharynx, larynx and nasopharynx represent nearly 700,000 new cases and 380,000 deaths worldwide per annum, and account for over 10,000 annual deaths in the United States alone. Improvement in outcomes are needed for patients with recurrent and or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC). In 2016, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted the first immunotherapeutic approvals – the anti-PD-1 immune checkpoint inhibitors nivolumab and pembrolizumab – for the treatment of pa...

In boys, causes of gonadal failure include Klinefelter and other aneuploidy syndromes, bilateral cryptorchidism, testicular torsion, and forms of 46,XY DSD such as partia...

Inflammatory responses play an important role in the adverse reactions of early and late ionizing radiation. Nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich-repeat-containing family pyrin 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome as a multi-protein complex that activates caspase-1 can give rise to ...
