Worldwide Analysis of Radiology Access and Education for Stroke Care: View From Abroad From 14 Countries
The World Health Organization reports that stroke is among the leading causes of death in noncommunicable diseases worldwide despite advances in acute stroke care [1]. Early interventions in cerebrovascular accidents can prevent mortality and minimize debilitating effects of stroke. There have been major recent advancements in stroke care to intervene more quickly and effectively. We are entering a new era of stroke imaging-based treatment for late acute ischemic stroke. Recent neurointerventional trials, such as DAWN and DEFUSE 3, have transformed the way clinicians provide acute stroke care in the United States and provided hope for patients who come beyond the traditional thrombolytic window of 6 hours [2-8].
