[Symptomatic urinary obstruction in patients with metastatic malignancies]. Aktuelle Urol. 2018 Sep;49(5):422-428 Authors: Heidegger I, Steinkohl F, Horninger W, Pichler R Abstract Symptomatic urinary obstruction, characterised by decreased or absent urinary outflow, is a common concomitant disease in patients with urological malignancies or carcinomas forming abdominal metastases. While acute urinary obstruction is associated with renal colics, chronic urinary obstruction often goes unnoticed for a long time. In addition to intrinsic causes such as upper urinary tract tumours, this condition is often caused by external compression of the ureter by tumour masses. Placement of a ureteral JJ stent or a percutaneous nephrostomy tube results in early disobstruction. Depending on the prognosis of the underlying disease, a definitive surgical restoration may be considered. PMID: 30184601 [PubMed - in process]
