Authors: Lopez RN, Lemberg DA Abstract Gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) in infancy is common, physiological and self-limiting; it is distinguished from gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) by the presence of organic complications and/or troublesome symptomatology. GORD is more common in infants with certain comorbidities, including history of prematurity, neurological impairment, repaired oesophageal atresia, repaired diaphragmatic hernia, and cystic fibrosis. The diagnosis of GORD in infants relies almost exclusively on clinical history and examination findings; the role of invasive testing and empirical trials...

The original Wheat Belly book rocked the nutritional world with its revolutionary ideas. But, as time has passed, I’ve added new strategies and concepts that have expanded the overall program and taken the health, weight, and youth-preserving benefits even further. I have therefore collected all this new material into a new Revised &Expanded Edition. The new Revised &Expanded Edition of Wheat Belly is now available at all major bookstores. Here is a brief excerpt from the new foreword: Wheat Belly began as my modest effort to help people with heart disease stop relying on the revolving door of angiopla...

Barrett's esophagus (BE) is an acquired condition in which normal squamous epithelium is replaced with metaplastic columnar epithelium as a consequence of gastroesophageal reflux disease. BE is known as a precursor of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Currently, the molecular mechanism underlying epithelial metaplasia in BE patients remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the role of Krüppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) signaling in the initiation of BE-associated metaplasia. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used to create a surgical model of bile reflux injury. Immunohistochemistry was performed to analyze human and mouse esophage...

This study simultaneously evaluated the regeneration energy of MDEA and PZ/MDEA solvents in terms of heat of absorption, sensible heat, and vaporization heat. Aspen Hysys version 8.8 simulation tool is applied to model the full acid gas removal plant for the chemical absorption process. The new energy balance technique presents around the absorption and desorption columns to bring a new perspective of energy distribution in the capturing of acid gas plants. Sensitivity analysis of regeneration energy and its three contributors is performed at several operations parameters such as absorber and stripper pressures, lean amine...
