A First in Canada: How a CSRT Successfully Co-led the Implementation of New Technology

There has been a dramatic paradigm shift in the way we treat brain metastases, moving from conventional whole brain radiotherapy to the widely accepted stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). We are the first Radiation Therapy led Canadian centre to offer SRS with the new Gamma Knife (GK) ICON unit- a unit that allows frameless delivery of high dose radiation therapy to multiple brain metastases, while sparing normal tissue. This talk will focus on how a Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist (CSRT) co-led the successful implementation of a new technology, and steps involved to change the existing model of care.
