Implementation of the Palliative Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist Improves Access to Care for Patients Referred for Palliative Radiation Therapy
In Ontario, Palliative Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapists (pCSRTs) have demonstrated a positive impact on quality of palliative radiotherapy (pRT), utilizing their advanced knowledge, skills and judgement, aligning with Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) ’s goal of improving our health care system. pCSRTs improve access to care by sharing tasks with Radiation Oncologists (ROs) and reducing treatment delays. Delayed pRT causes distress, unnecessary symptom burden and compromised survival outcomes.
